19 For the music director; a psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God; 2
the sky displays his handiwork. 3
2 Day after day it speaks out; 4
night after night it reveals his greatness. 5
3 There is no actual speech or word,
nor is its 6 voice literally heard.
4 Yet its voice 7 echoes 8 throughout the earth;
its 9 words carry 10 to the distant horizon. 11
In the sky 12 he has pitched a tent for the sun. 13
5 Like a bridegroom it emerges 14 from its chamber; 15
like a strong man it enjoys 16 running its course. 17
6 It emerges from the distant horizon, 18
and goes from one end of the sky to the other; 19
nothing can escape 20 its heat.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect
and preserves one’s life. 21
The rules set down by the Lord 22 are reliable 23
and impart wisdom to the inexperienced. 24
8 The Lord’s precepts are fair 25
and make one joyful. 26
The Lord’s commands 27 are pure 28
and give insight for life. 29
9 The commands to fear the Lord are right 30
and endure forever. 31
The judgments given by the Lord are trustworthy
and absolutely just. 32
10 They are of greater value 33 than gold,
than even a great amount of pure gold;
they bring greater delight 34 than honey,
than even the sweetest honey from a honeycomb.
11 Yes, your servant finds moral guidance there; 35
those who obey them receive a rich reward. 36
12 Who can know all his errors? 37
Please do not punish me for sins I am unaware of. 38
13 Moreover, keep me from committing flagrant 39 sins;
do not allow such sins to control me. 40
Then I will be blameless,
and innocent of blatant 41 rebellion.
14 May my words and my thoughts
be acceptable in your sight, 42
O Lord, my sheltering rock 43 and my redeemer. 44
20 For the music director; a psalm of David.
May the Lord answer 2 you 3 when you are in trouble; 4
may the God of Jacob 5 make you secure!
2 May he send you help from his temple; 6
from Zion may he give you support!
3 May he take notice 7 of your offerings;
may he accept 8 your burnt sacrifice! (Selah)
4 May he grant your heart’s desire; 9
may he bring all your plans to pass! 10
5 Then we will shout for joy over your 11 victory;
we will rejoice 12 in the name of our God!
May the Lord grant all your requests!
6 Now I am sure 13 that the Lord will deliver 14 his chosen king; 15
he will intervene for him 16 from his holy heavenly temple, 17
and display his mighty ability to deliver. 18
7 Some trust in chariots and others in horses, 19
but we 20 depend on 21 the Lord our God.
8 They will fall down, 22
but we 23 will stand firm. 24
9 The Lord will deliver the king; 25
he will answer us 26 when we call to him for help! 27
21 For the music director; a psalm of David.
O Lord, the king rejoices in the strength you give; 2
he takes great delight in the deliverance you provide. 3
2 You grant 4 him his heart’s desire;
you do not refuse his request. 5 (Selah)
3 For you bring him 6 rich 7 blessings; 8
you place a golden crown on his head.
4 He asked you to sustain his life, 9
and you have granted him long life and an enduring dynasty. 10
5 Your deliverance brings him great honor; 11
you give him majestic splendor. 12
6 For you grant him lasting blessings;
you give him great joy by allowing him into your presence. 13
7 For the king trusts 14 in the Lord,
and because of the sovereign Lord’s 15 faithfulness he is not upended. 16
8 You 17 prevail over 18 all your enemies;
your power is too great for those who hate you. 19
9 You burn them up like a fiery furnace 20 when you appear; 21
the Lord angrily devours them; 22
the fire consumes them.
10 You destroy their offspring 23 from the earth,
their descendants 24 from among the human race. 25
11 Yes, 26 they intend to do you harm; 27
they dream up a scheme, 28 but they do not succeed. 29
12 For you make them retreat 30
when you shoot your arrows at them. 31
13 Rise up, O Lord, in strength! 32
We will sing and praise 33 your power!
