15 A psalm of David.
Lord, who may be a guest in your home? 2
Who may live on your holy hill? 3
2 Whoever lives a blameless life, 4
does what is right,
and speaks honestly. 5
3 He 6 does not slander, 7
or do harm to others, 8
or insult his neighbor. 9
4 He despises a reprobate, 10
but honors the Lord’s loyal followers. 11
He makes firm commitments and does not renege on his promise. 12
5 He does not charge interest when he lends his money. 13
He does not take bribes to testify against the innocent. 14
The one who lives like this 15 will never be upended.
16 A prayer 2 of David.
Protect me, O God, for I have taken shelter in you. 3
2 I say to the Lord, “You are the Lord,
my only source of well-being.” 4
3 As for God’s chosen people who are in the land,
and the leading officials I admired so much 5 –
4 their troubles multiply,
they desire other gods. 6
I will not pour out drink offerings of blood to their gods, 7
nor will I make vows in the name of their gods. 8
5 Lord, you give me stability and prosperity; 9
you make my future secure. 10
6 It is as if I have been given fertile fields
or received a beautiful tract of land. 11
7 I will praise 12 the Lord who 13 guides 14 me;
yes, during the night I reflect and learn. 15
8 I constantly trust in the Lord; 16
because he is at my right hand, I will not be upended.
9 So my heart rejoices
and I am happy; 17
My life is safe. 18
10 You will not abandon me 19 to Sheol; 20
you will not allow your faithful follower 21 to see 22 the Pit. 23
11 You lead me in 24 the path of life; 25
I experience absolute joy in your presence; 26
you always give me sheer delight. 27
17 A prayer of David.
Lord, consider my just cause! 2
Pay attention to my cry for help!
Listen to the prayer
I sincerely offer! 3
2 Make a just decision on my behalf! 4
Decide what is right! 5
3 You have scrutinized my inner motives; 6
you have examined me during the night. 7
You have carefully evaluated me, but you find no sin.
I am determined I will say nothing sinful. 8
4 As for the actions of people 9 –
just as you have commanded,
I have not followed in the footsteps of violent men. 10
5 I carefully obey your commands; 11
I do not deviate from them. 12
6 I call to you for you will answer me, O God.
Listen to me! 13
Hear what I say! 14
7 Accomplish awesome, faithful deeds, 15
you who powerfully deliver those who look to you for protection from their enemies. 16
8 Protect me as you would protect the pupil of your eye! 17
Hide me in the shadow of your wings! 18
9 Protect me from 19 the wicked men who attack 20 me,
my enemies who crowd around me for the kill. 21
10 They are calloused; 22
they speak arrogantly. 23
11 They attack me, now they surround me; 24
they intend to throw me to the ground. 25
12 He 26 is like a lion 27 that wants to tear its prey to bits, 28
like a young lion crouching 29 in hidden places.
13 Rise up, Lord!
Confront him! 30 Knock him down! 31
Use your sword to rescue me from the wicked man! 32
14 Lord, use your power to deliver me from these murderers, 33
from the murderers of this world! 34
They enjoy prosperity; 35
you overwhelm them with the riches they desire. 36
They have many children,
and leave their wealth to their offspring. 37
15 As for me, because I am innocent I will see your face; 38
when I awake you will reveal yourself to me. 39
